There is no reason to avoid JSX, it is just becoming adopted in React community and with a lot of these things, you follow the grain. For my tutorial i did not follow the meteor suggested folder structure, because I dont think UI is an adequate separation of concerns. Your app is full of top level features or topic, which may have server and client code. I separate by concept.
